Custom Saddles
A custom saddle is truly a unique and rewarding experience for any horse owner. We believe there is a need in today's equine community to provide an alternative to the manufactured and mass produced saddles and tack available in most feed and tack stores.
"Most of our customers have a personal picture of what their own saddle should look like, and how it should feel to ride" says Doug.
"When we have done our job well, we help change that personal picture into a personal experince".

Buckaroo Saddle
Built on a Wade tree with a wood post horn, this buckaroo saddle is modestly tooled with a traditional Western floral design. Complete with bucking rolls and "mule" hide horn wrap, this working stock saddle will provide years of comfort and reliability. |
|
Pleasure Saddle
Made in the traditional eight string style, this "Old Style Visalia" saddle has the look and feel of saddles made during an earlier time of our Western history. Combining this look with the moderate rise in the seat truly makes this saddle a "pleasure" to ride. |
|
Roping Saddle
Doug's roping saddles and general purpose stock saddles are made to withstand the use and abuse required to get the job done. This Weatherly saddle combines a shorter back board and Cheyenne roll, for ease of mounting and dismounting, with a moderate rise in the ground seat, allowing for "reach" when casting a loop. |
|
Trail Saddle
Doug has been making trail saddles for a number of years now. After talking with his customers, Doug helps explain the many common traits and characteristics between their back country saddle, and a well made stock saddle. A ground seat shaped for balance and comfort, top quality materials and hardware, and superior craftsmanship. All of these help provide for many years of enjoyment and back country riding pleasure. |
|
Buckaroo Saddle
This buckaroo saddle is made with a four inch tall backboard and straight up binding. Tooled with basket stamp and simple boarder design, it incorporates all of the traditional buckaroo saddle features, such as a post horn, bucking rolls, and "California" shaped skirts. |

Barry Snook, J Bar Farm and Kennel, Dog Trial Judge Canby, OR "I recently purchased a custom saddle from Doug's Saddle Shop. I ordered this saddle for an extremely hard to fit Tennessee Walking horse. I tried six to eight different saddles on this horse over an eight year period, and each saddle had him soared. Doug took on the challenge, making a point to fit the horse correctly. He fit the unfinished tree to him on two different visits, making the needed adjustments and corrections on each occasion. The completed saddle was delivered to me on time, and fits perfectly. I could not be more delighted with the way it fits my horse, and me as well. It is extremely comfortable, and is artistically beautiful as well. Doug's craftsmanship leaves nothing to be desired. I would highly recommend Doug and his work to anyone, without hesitation." |

Lew Conner, Conner Quarter Horses Sprague River, OR "I never really gave it much thought about how a saddle should feel. When I came to you and discussed making me a new saddle, I knew what I wanted the saddle to do, and since this was to be my last saddle, I had a few things in mind that were not part of a standard layout for a typical Western saddle. But, as a craftsman, you took my request in stride and went to work. This is my fourth hand made saddle, and is the best I have owned. I've covered a lot of miles with it, and ride it on a number of different horses. It is as comfortable today as the day you sent it to me, and the craftsmanship is outstanding. I have already recommended you to a number of my friends. Thank you again, Doug." |

Chris Asbell, Rancher Joseph, OR "Doug made my saddle in 2003. After looking at some of his work, I told him I needed a good using saddle. He took the time to find out what I was looking for, and fit up my horse as well. There are times that I work out of it all day long, and there has never been any discomfort to me or my horse. Good piece of work, Doug." |
